Go-Ride Section 5th Anniversary and Clubmark

On 24th April 2010 Gosforth Road Club Go-Ride section ran it's first coaching session in Exhibition Park. We had 2 coaches and 13 youngsters aged 7-16yrs. Last week was our 5th anniversary and we've come a long way since those early sessions. We now have 8 qualified coaches, 2 coaches in training, 3 young volunteers and over 80 young riders on our books. We run weekly coaching in the Park as well as 2 ride-outs a month. We regularly send riders to Manchester Velodrome, have trips to mountain bike trail centres, organise family rides and even a monthly BMX session. As an example of how well our riders are developing we had 3 Go-riders in the top 6 riders in the annual Club Hill Climb last October. On our anniversary last week we had a visit from Lorna Bennett, British Cycling Regional Development Manager, who came to present us with our Clubmark certificate. Clubmark is the universally acknowledged cross sport accreditation scheme for community sports clubs and it is a testament to all those involved with the club that we have attained this accolade. Who knows where we will be in another 5 years
